| i never like twilight, both movie and book so I prefer Vampire Academy. because I prefer Rose than Bella. Bella....She was the worst female protagonist that I have ever read. She so stupid, want give her life to a good-looking vampire? OMG.... it's pathetic and unhealthy. and see the plot, where's the conflict in twilight? i was so bored read about girl who adores and loves a vampire almost in whole pages =.=" and about the writer, Meyer and Mead...... I'm Sorry to say but Mead actually has TALENT... | |

| I think Vampire Academy story is much more complex than Twilight. I think thats why i like the series more. Plus I love the constant action. | |

All Mead might be misssing, would have to be some skill, though, as she tends to misspell words, from what i just read of the 1st Vampire Academy novel. Maybe Spelling Skills wouldn't be the only thing she's missing, but that would have to be on the list of skills she's missing. At least she doesn't censor any Climax that would occur, we have to give her that one, right?Even though i suspect you only get to see half of the climax, though, sadly enough, through Rose's and Lissa's eyes, anyway.

The spelling issue isn't necessarily all RM's fault. So we should cut her some slack. (I just love her to pieces! I wouldn't want her offended.) The majority of the blame falls on the shoulders of the editors and lack of proofreading. You're not the only one to mention this problem, Tony. I have noticed it in all kinds of books, not just RM's VA series. I have seen it in Twilight. I have seen it in Harlequin romances (yeah, I read them, so what?), and I've seen it most recently in the "Midnight Breed" series. There was probably some in the Vampire Diaries, too, but I can't recall it at the moment. Anyways, IMO, what the problem is, is that the publishing companies, editors, etc, are relying solely on "Spellcheck". The result is correctly spelled words, but inappropriate word choices, and incorrect tenses...that sort of thing. An example from the Midnight Breed book I'm reading was when the main character was describing the following action around her: (May not be the exact quote) "I saw the taxi careering into traffic." Careering is a correctly spelled word, however it makes no sense. The word they were looking for is CAREENING. What's happening, and I can smell it a mile away, is that when whomever it is who is doing the typing, is allowing the word processing program to complete the words for them. Anyone who has used WORD, or WordPerfect, or even the Open Office programs sees this happen. You start to type something, and the computer makes a guess at what it is you're trying to say. Sure, it *can* be a timesaver, but really, if you let it go, you will get correctly spelled wrong word choices. I would love a job as a proofreader! I was very good at that kind of thing back in HS. I regularly find mistakes in books and in newspapers, too. It drives me nuts! I'd love to pull out a red pen/pencil crayon and start making marks on the pages! LOL!

| I kind of like finding a few mistakes in books, it makes me aware that they're not perfect, but also makes me love them more for not being perfect. | |

| I'm going to disagree with you there, Secret. When I pay for a book, I expect it to be quality. I expect that care should be taken to correct all spelling and other errors. Seeing mistakes makes me feel like I'm not reading literature, but reading something along the lines of fan-fic. No offense to the fanfic writers here, but I have had (at other fandoms) negative experiences with fanfic. Quite a lot of it is badly written. When I see the mistakes I cringe. I absolutely cringe because I feel it detracts from the story. When I see the wrong word used, I'm forced to shake my head and go, "Huh? What's that supposed to mean? Did I read that right?" I just find it frustrating. | |

| I understand, and I can't say I don't get frustrated sometimes myself, but sometimes it makes me remember people are only human. I can forgive them for that. | |

| And now, there's still Half-Vamps running all over the place, without any real rhyme or reason, at all, isn't there?
Seriously, there's Half-Gods and Half-Goddesses running all over the place, but at least there's real rhyme and reason, for that to happen, as it would be shown in the world of Percy Jackson And The Olympians, wouldn't there?

| I think there is just the right balance of romance and action in VA. And you're right, VA is kind of a 'coming of age' tale starring Rose and her journey into adulthood and 'Guardian-hood'. But it's got IMO the right amount of romance thrown in.
Don't get me wrong, I loved Twilight. And if it weren't for Twilight, I wouldn't have picked these up. However, Twilight is first and foremost a love story told against the backdrop of vampires.
Everyone's different and will like an emphasis on different themes. And sometimes those preferences differ with mood. Sometimes you feel like romance, sometimes you feel like adventure/action.

| I agree Ballroomdancer. VA definitely has a balance and you can't say the romance side of it is what drives the story, makes it what it is. But that's not to say that the romance isn't essential to the storyline and finding out who Rose is. | |

| Plus, V.A actually has more eye-candy, to add to the mix, than the Twilight world would ever be able to put together. | |

Not to mention that there's actual Rhyme And Reason for Half-Vamps to be all over the place, instead of the apparent Free-For-All-That-Held-No-Credibility case that was within the twilight world. Need i say more?
