Somehow I doubt Adrian will end up with Sydney, especially considering she's a human.

I know, but that's just my personal opinion. It might still happen, we'll just have to wait and see. All the same, Dhampirs are still kind of in his reach, even if its not considered "proper" to love a dhampir if you are Moroi, Rose is still kind of accessible to him. Humans on the other hand, are not as accessible. Though I suppose Sydney does have a advantage, she seems to know a lot about the Vampire world, so she's in with a chance

Now I'm once again curious about what an Alchemist is in their society. Surely if there was someone out there who cleaned up the "evidence" of vampires they would have heard about them world-wide, right?

Yeah, I want to know why Rose doesn't know about these guys. What do they do? It's obviously not really a secret since Sydney seemed to expect Rose to know these things. Maybe this is something she missed learning about in the two years she was gone from the academy?

That's something I hadn't considered before. They did miss a lot during those two years. But you'd think someone would have meantioned it at some point in the time they'd returned. It might not be a secret, but it seems as though its an extremely important role in Russian society at least, keeping the other humans from re-discovering the vampires. The Moroi teachers would have to have said something, unless they don't have them in America, so only touched on the subject at the Academy.
And Rose said Sydney had an American accent. So they imported someone to cover up the Strigoi?

I was just thinking of another question the first chapter left open: Why doesn't anyone want to tell Rose where the dhampir camp is? Do you think it's just because she's young and they're trying to protect her from the "blood-whore" trade, or is it maybe because they've already figured out who she is and why she's there and they're trying to stop her from looking for Dimitri?

Secret, you mentioned something about alchemists being the ones to cover up Strigoi deaths. I just wonder why it's the term "alchemist" instead of say "caretaker" or "janitor"? That would make more sense to me. *shrug*

I also think that the people who aren't telling her where that camp or town is know who Rose is and don't want her to go after Dimitri. And we all know how well that will work! LOL!

Well I'm really only guessing about the covering up thing based on what Sydney said, about having a lot of explaining to do. So I fugure that's what her role is. But I'm equally as unsure why the term "alchemist" is being used.
haha, I'd like to see them try and stop her. She's too stubborn to listen to them anyway. She'll find Dimitri's home one way or another even if she has to travel all over Siberia to do so.
I think the blood-whore she ran into just didn't want Rose, being so young, to get into the business. I think she feared that was Rose's only option. But the guardian that came over seemed different.

My understanding of an Alchemist is someone who can change base metals (like iron) into gold. Sydney doesn't exactly fit that description, so this alchemist has to be something different.

Though wikipedia also said some Achlemists research the posibility of creating: everlasting life. No there's a clue to something: Strigoi much?

Well, we can't really know that for sure. There could be other kinds of magic that Rose doesn't know about too. Maybe alchemy in this series could have an effect on how Strigoi can return to their former states? Or maybe I just watch too much anime. lol

there's a possibility that's what she's doing...Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but perhaps they're trying to discover a way to return their humanity to them. Maybe not fully, in the way they are returned to their former states, but maybe enough so that they're civilized and controlable.
