PostSubject: Re: What's everyone up to?   What's everyone up to? - Page 7 Icon_minitimeWed Oct 12, 2011 11:57 am

Glad you didn't have to deal with the drama for once Tasha and that your brother took care of that situation. You deserved that small break Smile Have fun at the fair! I lvoe fairs but I haven't gone to anything like that since I was pregnant with my son. I didn't even get to enjoy it then due to morning sickness : / *crosses fingers for beautiful weather*

About an hour ago while at the store, a lady approached me out of nowhere. She just all of a sudden stopped turned and looked at me and walked right on up talking about reading. I being the book junkie I am assumed she was talking about books. Boy was I wrong Embarassed Nope she claimed to be some kind of gypsy and she then described my personality dead on. She explained that normally she doesn't jsut walk up to people like that especially with her son but something drew her towards me. She started talking about seeing an Angel with me or something along those lines and then started in about Heaven and the gates of hell and Lucifer and a bunch of other stuff about me. Then she started talking about reading through the eyes. How when she does it she calls out past, present, and future names and everything there is to know about me. She asked if I wanted a reading and I politely refused. It was a lot to take him and I was completely overwhelmed. Plus I had got a weird vibe so I politely refused. She gave me this creeeeeepy look and I turned and walked off. I got chills and my body all of a sudden felt heavier and weird and I felt liek she had cursed me! I knwo it sounds crazy, hell i feel crazy just thinking it but I seriously feel like she cursed me. I told my mom about it in the car and as soon as I mentioned my son wouldn't even look at her she gave me this look. And it dawned on me that he must have felt something from her. People say kids feel, sense and see things others don't see. There was a reason he wouldn't look at her. He always plays shy but he's NEVER acted like that. Oh on top of that, about 2 hours before that happened I was driving home from taking my husband somewhere and I saw a psychic reading place and I have always been curious of it and thought me and my best friend should do that for my birthday. it would be fun, we'd get a kick out of it. So yeah, it really freaked me out.

Idk if I believe in gypsy's and stuff like that, but my mind is open to the possibility thanks to all these paranormal books I read. Geez, I feel like a crazy person talking about all that. I wouldn't blame ya'll if you are sitting there laughing at me right now. if I weren't so freaked out I'd laugh at me too lol

No laughing from me Wilda. I actually believe in SOME of that stuff but i personally think people that actually tap into other senses wouldn't be walking around giving physic readings publicly. But i believe in alot of the superstitious stuff and some methods like sage...i used sage my house when no one was home to purify it from spirits and negativity and stuff. I've been joking that the hubby and I should check out some local psychics and have HIM get the reading and see if they know about his cancer and what not, kind of test em. I found it pretty funny at doing that . lol.

No laughing from me either. I don't believe everything that psychics do or say, but I don't doubt that you or your son got bad vibes from her. If you're freaked you should put salt in a spray bottle and spray it around you and your son, because salt is purifying so you'll get rid of any negative vibes. Or do Tasha's sage burning thing. I know they sounds weird too, but I think they'd work (or, so part of thinking they work is probably a trick of the mind: if you believe in it you're more likely to see the outcome you want. but that still means they're working!) I used to run my rocks and crystals under salt water to get rid of everyone else's influence on them...when that was done, no-one was allowed to touch the crystals except for me, because they wouldn't work if there was more than one energy on them. Speaking of psychics. I was going through one of my draws the other day and found my old Tarot cards. I was totally tempted to give myself a reading (even though I SUCK at interpreting the cards)...but I didn't, because I was lazy and couldn't be bothered shuffling them.

I went through a massive Witch-Phase as a kid, not sure it's completely gone Razz

That's how I kinda feel too. The real psychics won't be out and about publicly. I believe in some stuff. Like the sage stuff. I've been looking into getting some herbs and stuff to work with. i'm really into the witch stuff. I'm open to anything as long as its not bad liek sacrificing animals and stuff lol. Like I said I'm an open-minded person and the lady did nail my personality down which caught me off guard but the more she went on and on the freakier it got. But what really creeped me out was how my son acted towards her. That said a lot imo. I think i will do the salt thing Kim. I don't have any sage to work with atm otherwise I'd do both.

Tasha, tats why i wanted to go get a reading done. just to see if the psychic got anything right. I thought it'd be fun but after my encounter with that lady I'm not so sure : /

Kim, I didn't know you were into he witch stuff. I've always been interested in it but have never really pursued it. I've jsut recently really started looking into the different stuff. Especially the earth stuff like rocks and crystals and using fo herbs, etc...

Thank you both for not laughing at me. I feel better knowing that you believe me Smile

Lol, I've toned down the witch stuff these days. My friends and I went through a MASSIVE wicca thing in high school when my sister got us all reading Cate Tiernan's 'Wicca' (or 'Sweep' in the US) series. We all swaped books and got together at a friends house and tried to do a circle and make magic. Most of the girls gave up after a while but my sister and I and a select few friends went overboard with candles and runes and looking up the wiccan holidays (sabbats and solstices/equinoxes...that's why 'Shade'/'Shine' realy interested me). It was a bit ridiculous actually, but it went on for months! I could totally see myself doing little things again though: obsessing over crystals and gemstones, watching out for holidays, really paying attention to the moon cycle. Oh, Oh! It's a full moon here tonight! I totally didn't have to look that up either because the stupid bugger keep shining in my eyes at night because my stupid blinds don't block the light out!

Rant over. The point was, yeah, I'm into the witch stuff Razz

OMG Kim mee tooo. Thats how my friends and I got interested in Wicca from the Sweep series. We were into it for YEARS. And we live by a big park with a forest and clearings and we tried to have circles and we actually studied from Wicca textbooks and stuff. It was extra forbidden to us cause we went to religious school ( Catholic school), so we had to like meet in the back of the school yard to swap books and one friend actually studied runes and she made a chart to study from and a teacher walked by and thought she was in the special ed class or something drawing scribbles..lolll. That same friend still follows the wiccan path sort of , she kind of mushes Wiccan and Buddhists mythologies together. I used to go with her to the big pagan festival in Manhattan every year and they have all these cool shops and stands set up and perform one big circle its so cool. She has crystals and all that stuff. The only thing that stuck with me is the North, South, East West thingy and incense/sage burning. I actually kept a little alter for the elements until very recently. I dismantled it cause i had no room for it anymore. I was WAY into the tarot cards, i actually still have my tarot kit in the closet. But i really sucked at it lol. I'm actually reading Cate Tiernan's newer series Bale fire and it makes me miss all the Wiccan stuff a little bit.

Edit: Embarrassing fact, in the sweep( wicca) series, remember that little thingy the witches do to cool their hot beverages down? "cool the fire", i STILL catch myself doing that from time to time. It never actually works for me, but i like to pretend it does. lol.

Lol! I always tried the "cool the fire" thing too! The other one I used to do (and I swear 50% of the time it actually worked) was the "I am invisible, you see me not, I am but a shadow" spell/chant. I used to say it over and over in my head when I didn't want to answer questions in class.

I haven't read her Balefire series, but my sister and I were talking about something the other day (I don't even remember what it was) but it made me want to reread the wicca/sweep series. They're so small I bet they'd be super easy to read these days.

PostSubject: Re: What's everyone up to?   What's everyone up to? - Page 7 Icon_minitimeWed Oct 12, 2011 5:49 pm

I'm going to re-read the Sweep series around the end of November. I've bought the Volumes ( 3 books in one volume, there is four out so far) and the last one comes out December 8th. ( I've bought them on Amazon) I have half of the original books, the end half i think book 8- to the novel. The rest of the series is scattered throughout my friends, some who are no longer in state. But i wanted to preserve them since its so hard to get the original books especially since the re-prints. So when its closer to December and i can get the final volume, that my plan. Though its tempting to read it now since I'm reading Cate's other books, it makes me miss Sweep sooo much. I put off reading Bale fire cause i thought it was weak attempt to re-create the Sweep premise or something, but it's sooo different, about a different type of witches and magick not necessarily Wicca. SO it's really good. Sweep is what started it all for me... after that i started reading and reading looking for a series to get into and that's how i fell for vampires and paranormal stuff :-)

Hey guys. I'm feeling better today. Hopefully I'll be all better by next week.

As for paranormal-type stuff... I totally believe that some of that happens. I really think that psychics exist and that some people can see the future or know things about people. I've had a premonitory dream before... as has my mom.

I haven't read the Sweep series... I tend to stay away from witchy-type things, but not because I have anything against them or anything. I kind of think people who are uptight about magic/paranormal stuff need to get a grip. Razz I guess I should look into it though because I've heard they were good. I'm just not usually into witches. I prefer vampires. Razz

OK, Sweep just moved to the top of my tbr list. In fact, I want to start reading it now! But I can't cause I don't have them yet Sad One of my fav adult series is about a Witch. She starts out as an earth witch and slowly starts to use ley lines, etc. It's pretty interesting. The story doesn't revolved around spells and all but its interesting. It's called The Hollows series or Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison. First book is Dead Witch Walking. There's also vampires, pixies, werewolves, etc. Plus I've been watching The Secret Circile on tv (haven't read the books), and that has me really interested in witch stuff too. Liek I said, I've always been into it. I've just never found someone else to share it with. But my best friend jsut told me she's into it too (talking to her now). She thinks its all cool. SO we'll probably get together and look into everything more soon. Oh yeah we're writing a book about a witch too. Don't know if I've mentioned that here yet.

Tasha: I know what you mean about finding the original books. They've started reprinting the Wicca versions too, putting 2 books in 1...it's just not the same as seeing the first copies. My sister put all of hers in a box in her wardrobe to keep them protected. It was sort of odd though. I read the series out of order. Both of my sisters were reading them at the same time, and I read the first 60 pages of book 1 and gave up. I just couldn't get into it. Then we were on this month long trip around australia and I ran out of books, but my sis had found books 7, 13, & 15 while we were away. I read book 15 first, then 7, then 13 and when we got home I started from the beginning again. It was so out of character for me, because I HATE reading books out of order. But it did make me really like the series.

Ash: yeah, I like vampires more too Razz These days I've got a wide range of fave book topics, but I think Vampires will always come out on top.

Wilda: Totally adding Dead Witch Walking to my tbr list now, if you enjoyed it that much. Don't know when I'll get around to reading it, but it's there Razz I think you did mention you were writing a book, but I don't know if you said what it's about. That's pretty cool either way. Keep us updated on how your story goes Smile

I bought two Sweep books on Monday cause they were on sale. More like 6 books cause they're 3 in 1s.
Only 5 bucks each Very Happy
Sadly this was because my favourite Borders book shop is closing down Sad
It would be awesome if we all read them at the same time.
The secret circle is also on my reading list. Funny how something that came out in the early 90s is popular again.

Plan for the weekend - finish my last assignment for the semester and watch the rugby semi finals.

Libby: Lol, we totally could. It'd be like a book club or something Razz
I hope you finish your assignment quickly so you can sit back and relax for the rest of the weekend.

I spent about 2 hours this morning helping my mum set up a local high school's exam rooms. We start supervising on Monday (well I don't start until Tuesday, but in general it starts on Monday). 4 weeks of watching kids stress their way through final exams. Had a few issues, like finding out a couple of kids get extra time and we don't have supervisors for them yet. I'm rostered onto a few days, like normal...but since my mum's running the thing, I'll probably end up with a few more days. I don't mind because I'm not doing anything else and it means I get paid more Razz My sister's also supervising with us, but she's just handed her resume around to a whole heap of schools to teach casually and a couple seemed interested in taking her up on it really soon, so if she has to teach on days she's supervising, I'm getting her spots. Again, no issues for me because it means I have something to do during the day. I just take a book with me and sit around reading (not much different to being home, but at least I feel like I'm doing something important this way)

GL to your sister Kim and that you get more spots. More spots=more money=more books. At least thats how I tend to think lol

I'm definitely up for a Sweep read along. I say we plan one Smile

I took my kids shopping for Halloween costumes today. My son did something cute while looking at masks. He saw a werewolf one (it was super creepy looking) and he said "I'm going to be a werewolf" then howled!. Everyone in the aisle started laughing. But in the end he chose Spider Man and my daughter chose Vampire Queen. She's obsessed with vampires atm. Guess she takes after me more than I thought.

Oh on the way to the store, I was talking to my hubby on the phone (he was at work) and he asked me "you're not planning anymore readings are you?" he always find some way to tease me about something Rolling Eyes

I think a read along is a great idea!

Good luck to you and your sister Kim. I agree more money equals more books!

Wilda- that was so cute of your son! Awe.

So i got a dog today. Bianca. First time ever owning a pet. My dad called me early am "come meet your dog".... i was like whattttt. But she is so cute! She is a dog, not a puppy. Not sure her age. She is a Pomeranian and she is one big fuzz ball i love her my fuzzy wuzzy lol. She is tiring though. She LOVES me.... she wont even sit unless I'm sitting. I move slightly she jumps up ready to follow me. She loves people. She runs to everyone. She does this cute thingy, she stands on her back legs and jumps up and down until you pet her. Awe. We're trying to figure out her food and training habits. Cause dogs get sick if you switch their foods but my dad doesnt remember what the guy who gave him the dog told him. So i got the supposed brand she eats of dry food, but she wasnt eating it all day. I have a bad feeling they were feeding her table food mostly. But i mixed some wet dog food and dry food and she finally ate. I just hope she doesnt get sick. I walked her like a million times today. I'm going to walk her again in a lil while and we're guna try to put her to sleep with my dad downstairs. I hope she stays. But i anticipate a restless night. My mom , who hates dogs, actually likes her. So she agreed to a few days- a week to try out the doggy.

Aw, Tasha, that's awesome. I love dogs, they're so cool and they just love you to pieces. Best pets ever. I hope you work out the right food for her, wouldn't want her getting sick. My dog was part pomeranian (I think it was only a really little part though), they're so cute. I really want another dog, but my mum reckons we won't get one for a while. She wants to pick a time when we're all going to be home heaps so the puppy can get used to us and we're here if it needs us...so I probably won't be until next year.

awe Tasha, your dog is SOOOOO pretty! I had a pom named Lucky when I was little. He was the best dog ever. I'm more of a cat person, but the hubby won't budge on the no cat thing Sad As far as the food goes, I have always been told switching with upset their tummy until they get used to it. It took my pup a week to start eating the new brand regularly and that was with us mixing dry and wet. But he never got sick. Now he's a spoiled little thing. But I guess its different with dogs than puppies cause they are more used to a certain food. Hopefully she won't get sick.

So, when does everyone want to do the Sweep read along?

Its crazy to think I have just 3 days of undergrad classes to go.

That should be good for me, hopefully my dog is trained up a bit and adjusted by then... the past couple of days it's just been non-stop with my dog. I love her to bits, she is my princess. BUt i'm am SO tired lol.

SHe was scratching alot today so we think she might have fleas :-(. The hubby and I gave her a bath with the flea shampoo and picked up some flea treatment at the pet store, but i dont think we put it on right... it's the one in a tube you squeeze and apply it starting at the neck and finish at the shoulder blades. But she is so fluffy and wouldn't stay still i'm not sure if we actually got it through to her skin and on correctly. BUt she stopped scratching as much so i think its working enough. We're hoping next week to have the money to go take her to vet to get checked up and get her shots.

I guess I'll try to join you guys in the read along. Razz I'll have to see about picking up the books first, though I'm pretty sure I've spotted them in my bookstore. I'll try to check this weekend and if they've got it, I'll get the first book. How many books are in the series?

Tasha, your pom is so cute!! Her face kind of reminds me of my chihuahua's. Razz

There are 15 in the series, but if you can get the 3-in-1 books it'll probably be a lot cheaper and easier.

Tasha: I think any little bit would help, and at least she stopped scratching for now.

I've had the longest day. Started supervising exams today. Left the house at 6:50am and just got home about 10 minutes ago (it's currently 6:11pm)..and my dad wants to pick up fish & chips for dinner and wants me to drive to get them (a pretty good plan, since I still need to log in learning hours, especially at night, even if it's still super light at the moment because of daylight savings, but I'm tired Razz)

Also got a new babysitting gig for tomorrow night, sort of within the same family I normally babysit for (the normal group I look after the granddaughts, this time I'll be looking after their grandsons for their daughter instead of them...it's complicated but the important part is I know what's going on Razz) and luckily for me it's in the same building complex, their daughter lives a few house down from them...so hopefully there won't be any issues. And also lucky for me, tomorrow's supervising day is only a half day, so I should be finished by midday and then I can relaz before babysitting Razz

I've done my research on the books and you will save a lot if you buy the 3-in-1 sets instead of individual books. You're getting 3 for the price of 1. I'm going to pick up the first vol this weekend.

Tasha, Biana is SO cute! And it sounds like you did the flea meds right. Some is better than none so she should be okay. Also, Dawn dishsoap is really good for killing fleas and it won't hurt her.

Sorry you had such an exhausting day but at least you get a half day so you can relax before babysitting. From my experience, boys tend to be more trouble so GL!

My daughter got all dressed up in a black, white and pink dress with pantyhose, and black heels for a ballet field trip today. The teacher required them to dress up a bit. She looks like a mini grown up. Not sure how I feel about that but I got a little teary eyed lol. I'm not ready for her to grow up yet *sigh*
