I definitely recommend Poison Study (the Study series) by Maria V. Snyder. The main character reminded me of Katniss at times, except that Yelena isn't as damaged (some traumatic events in her past, but she's not damaged irreparably). I kinda don't understand how under-hyped/unknown this series is. I'd previously heard of it from reading a YA book blog, but hadn't really come across it anywhere else. It's an awesome series. I LOVED books 1 and 2; haven't yet read book 3.

I'd also have to recommend Inside Out - also by Maria V. Snyder. This lady really knows how to write some kickass heroines!! Inside Out is more sci-fi while Poison Study is more fantasy/adventure. But I really think you'd like both. I know I love them.

Also recommended: Black Dagger Brotherhood. You've been hanging out in the thread anyway and have shown interest before. Why not read the series? You might enjoy them. Though there's quite a lot of graphic/sexual content in them. But if you could watch something similar to the likes of True Blood... I think you'd be fine, honestly. Currently there are eight books in the series (not counting the Insider's Guide or the novellas) with more on the way.

I have yet to watch True Blood, but i did watch BattleStar Galactica and 300, so the idea of V being bi, notwithstanding, i think i can deal with it once i get started, when i do.
