| I know, some of the others here may be a bit young for the show, but I'm gonna be 19 in a couple of weeks, and I LOVE IT. I just watched the entire first season in the past few days and I'm already a fan.
Anyone else? | |

| I don't have HBO either...I watched the first season online haha. I've heard the show followed the books pretty well so I might go back and read them too. | |

| I've watched True Blood. I think it's alright, though it has more sex than I can typically stand watching. It feels like a porno a lot of the time. Though plenty of the actors are hot. Jason is steamy... I haven't read the books though. Still working on that. lol I only have the first book. Got to chapter two. - DropDeadPoet wrote:

Really?? All I hear is that the books are way different. Particularly this season.

| I feel the same way dimkaluv, the TV series seemed a bit off to me. Then again I haven't read the books either, so perhaps it helps having read them too. I own the first one, so I'm going to tackle that in a few days. | |

| *Note: I've read the WHOLE Southern Vampire AKA Sookie Stackhouse Series AND watched both seasons of HBO's True Blood .... i'm going to write this spoiler free so you can read at ease*
The HBO show True blood is roughly based of the series. However the two are radically different. I always explain the show as a fan fiction adaptation to the book. Both are GREAT though. I love the books. I love the show. However, i feel the two have nothing to do with each other. Both are distinctively different.
The first book in the series relates to season one of True Blood.. and the second book relates to the second season.
Season one was relatively the same with the major characters and major plots but alot were added in. Season two was so different i honestly sat down watching the show not knowing wth was going to happen.
I prefer the books over the show. But, like i said, both are good and i would recommend the show too. My advice is just read the books and consider that as one item and then watch the show and consider that as a different item and don't try to compare the two and then you will enjoy both.

| I have read the entire series. And I am a huse fan of the books and the show. Yeah the show gets a little racy but, the books are just as DETAILED with the descriptions of the sexual acts. Can't wait for the 10th book to be released somewhere around May. | |

| My mom won't let me watch the show or read the books, but according to her, like Peace love n VA said, the TV shows make her mad because they are nothing like the books. | |

| The first book is a little dry. Hell even the first couple. But they are still worth the read. The series really picks up. The story really evolves. The writing gets MUCH better. By the middle of the series, the books are completely unputdownable.
The first books is about Sookie Stackhouse who is a waitress at a bar and grill in a small town . She has a special ability. It's supposed to be present day only difference is vampires have come out of hidding and wish to integrate into society. The Japanese perfected synthetic blood so vampires don't have to drink human blood anymore ( they call it mainstreaming and of course there are vamps who don't want to mainstream nor dream the synthetic blood) There is a sub culture of "fang bangers" who go to clubs just so rendezvous with vampires. Sookie encounters a vampire when he walked into her bar and thanks to her ability and saves his life. She gets swept up into vampire-ness and vampire politics. Also there is a murderer on the loose in her town. I didn't spoil anything i promise. That's just a brief vague overview of the book. It's not YA and is a little more sexually suggestive though but i feel it's okay not vulgar or hindering the book in anyway.

| Funny. I don't like Erik in the show. But, I LOVE him the books. I can't stand Tara in the show. I'm glad her role is different in the books. | |

| Why wait? The show is only loosely based on the books. First book- first season, second book- second season. I read all the books that are out and still had not clue what the hell was going to happen in season two. | |

| Because I read the books before the season starts it will ruin the book and I don't want that | |

| The book- one things happens. The show- a totally different thing happens. IT's kinda like fan fiction. Some people prefer the show. Some people prefer the book. I most definitely prefer the books. | |
