| Has anyone read this series by Jacquelyn Frank? It's starts with Book 1: Jacob. The second book is Gideon, then Elijah....As best as I can describe it, it's demonic harlequin romance. The characters are demons, vampires, werewolves, druids, etc. The first book called Jacob oddly enough has a heroine named Isabella (Bella). The story is okay if only the author's writing would improve. But it's full of clunky with unutterable dialogue (which later we learn is Demonic affectation...everyone else speaks normally). And the "romance" scenes really require a lot to the gymnastic abilities of the characters...if you know what I mean.
So the story: Demons are elemental beings guided and almost controlled while controlling nature. During the Equinox (Samhain and Beltane) they get a bit more restless and "needy" if you know what I mean. Jacob is an Enforcer. He makes sure the Demons don't harm the human populace during their sex-crazed nights around the equinox. On one of these nights, while "enforcing" his own younger brother, he learns of a Demon who has been summoned by necromancers. These dark-magic using humans summon and Transform Demons into their basic beasts and strip them of any humanity and then use the Demons. While hunting the summoned, he sees Isabella from a window in the same neighborhood where Kane was enforced (this will be important later). He asks her a question or two about what she may have seen and Destiny literally knocks Bella from the window and Jacob catches her.
During this book we learn that Druids were driven to extinction by revenge-minded Demons, that they were always meant to be mates to Demons, and that perhaps they weren't extinct after all.

| So the second book in this series (Gideon) centers on the Ancient (over 1000 years old) Demon healer and his final acceptance that he needs to stop being a hermit and get on with life. Through his story with Magdalegna (the Demon King's sister), he discovers all that he's missed.
But we also learn a bit about the vampires, lycanthropes, shadowdwellers, etc. We also go to the next phase of the war between the human hunters who have now allied themselves with the dark-magic using Necromancers...and perhaps even trusted members of the Demon population. The stage is setting up to be an epic battle between humans and Nightwalkers. But lest you worry, there's still plenty of time for a few 10-page sex scenes.

| Book 3 (Elijah) delves into Lycanthrope civilization. Elijah, the Captain of the Demon Warriors accidentally trips into a trap while hunting the traitor Demons Ruth and Mary. He is battered by the Demons posing as sorcerers who have banded with the necromancers and hunters in their war with the Nightwalkers. For reasons that make no sense to anyone, Ruth blames the Demon King Noah, the Ancient medic Gideon, and the Enforcers Jacob (demon) and his Druid/human hybrid wife Isabella Russ for the death of her daughter Mary's soul mate. At the time, no one knew these hybrids existed and that Demon DNA would trigger their Druidic genes. Without their Demon soul mate, the Druid would literally starve of energy and die...which is what happened to Mary's future Imprinted mate when Jacob stopped Mary from "harming" the human she was trailing. So that's the back story for why Ruth is all rage-y.
So anyway, Elijah is left for dead when Siena the Lycanthrope Queen finds him and carries him back to a cave lair and tends to him. Although Druids and Demons had always been genetically compatible and always shared lives, no other Nightwalker species had ever crossed. Add to that the Elijah was known as the Demon Butcher who had slain thousands of Lycans during the century-long war between the Lycans and Demons and you have the makings of an interesting star-crossing. Naturally, this pair Imprint and throw the two cultures into chaos...can the Lycan's accept the Butcher as the Queen Consort?
Ruth and Mary meanwhile are in Lycanthrope territory in search of a "treasure" that can strip Nightwalkers of their powers. They're scorch-earthing this vendetta.

| This time, it's vampires. Damien, 964 years young is the oldest vampire and the longest to reign as Prince. Vampires are notoriously selfish, easily bored (so bored they'll run to ground and sleep for a century), like to play mischief, and are incapable of love so they sleep around quite a bit. Enter Syreena, Lycanthrope Princess and heir to Siena (who we met in Elijah...Queen of the Lycanthropes). Through a strange twist in illness, she's like a harlequin. Half her hair brown (falcon), half her hair grey (dolphin) with mismatched eyes of the same color in opposite sides. Unlike other Lycans, she can be two animals. Like her sister, as a royal, if she mates, she mates for life. Damien soon realizes that the reasons vampires can't love is b/c they don't drink from other Nightwalkers....
The hostilities with Ruth the traitorous demon turned necromancer escalates as she kidnaps and brutally tortures Syreena. She recruits aid in corners unpredicted, and has become even more powerful. The long lost Nightwalker Library holds truths too scary yet too important to all Nightwalkers...as it does also hold truths to why Damien has finally awoken to all his emotions for the first time in a 1000 years.
Although the romance is set up less, the actual plot of the arc is improving.

| Frank saves the best for the latest installment. You just knew that the 600 year old Fire Demon (Noah) would literally be the hottest of them all. I had always marveled at how easily the heroines accepted the Imprint and how easily the hybrid Druids accepted their new lives. So I was thrilled that Kestra Irons (how ironic given the metal's lethal affect on Demons) fought off the Demon King and the Imprint with every scrap of her mettle. Given how moral the Demons are, having him meant for a mercenary that has a penchant for commercial sabotage via explosives was a nice touch as well.
Nothing is resolved on the Ruth/Nicodemous plot but a gang of power-mad Vampires roving and collecting powers are the resident baddies in this installment.

| Ma'am actually. The Gatherers are uninspired and recycled. Hunting Julian might as well have been Noah....plus the plot to Monsters, Inc. The dimension needs energy and they bring Earth girls to supply it....through the big O. *insert eye roll here* | |

| As an Admin, I have the right to clean up and lock as necessary. Check out the Posting Rules. All House of Night should be discussed in one place....and that place ain't in connection with the Nightwalker series. | |
