Hi everyone

Figured I best pop by and introduce myself officially

My name's Rachel and I'm 23 years old. I'm currently a student at university
I'm completely in love with the VA series and find Rose a breath of fresh air. I honestly believe (and hope) VA will be the next big thing. Harry Potter and Twilight are soon to be coming to an end, providing the perfect opportunity for a fantastic new series to grace our screens
I hope so anyway!

Unlike you, however, I hope that VA does not become the "next big thing" as you put it. I think that movies and merchandise and all that comes with a big hit would ruin our own thoughts of the books. I know that when Twilight became big, I got accused several times of simply being a "follower" and going with the trend, when really, I was reading it before anyone else knew about it. I don't want that to happen to VA, and ruin my fantastic memories of waiting impatiently for the books, and being overjoyed when I finally read them, where as others who would read the series after it became a big hit would not have that same experience, and so many people would know about it. I like having it as something that I share with a few friends, not the whole world.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I've thought about it too.
Its a bit of a catch 22 situation for me... on the one hand I want it to get the recognition it deserves and would love to see it get a big budget for the big screen, its quite a visual series so i imagine it would translate quite well onto screen. But on the other hand, I do like that only a select few know about it.. it makes it more personal and more special. And after what happened to Twilight, I have to say it does taint it a little. I was like you, read the books prior to the movie and then when it hit big the fanbase and everything that came with it kinda ruined it for me (although I still enjoy it).

I think thats because they aimed it at a particular audience though... maybe.
VA touches on some quite mature aspects, like self harm in the first novel for instance... I was kinda hoping if they did release it, they'd set it at a 15+ certificate (they wont, but I can always dream lol). I guess we wont know until it happens (or doesnt happen). But I would like to see it on screen either way. I just hope it wouldnt ruin it

I saw it now. I don't want ti to be the next big thing. I want it to be really popular, but not like twilight... I've seen even socks, bandaids, and bed blankets with twilight scenes. Please. They try to make profit out of everything, and I hate that. I hope Richelle won't allow that, but you never know...

Sadly I dont think the writers have much control over the merch side of things.
I'm not sure how it works but I doubt Richelle would be able to prevent other companies cashing in on the profit =/
I know what you're saying though, the mind boggles with the amount they sell...

Gah, its annoying isnt it I soo want to see it made into a movie, just for my own personal curiosity really (I also want more pictures and stuff ) but I really dont want all that cr*p that comes with it.

For me its not even the merchandise that annoys me, its the fanbase >_<
Dont even get me started on the majority of the Twilight fanbase ... and the media doesnt help either.

Oh well.

while ur on the subject of movies... I seen a preview the other day for a show about a vampire, a werewolf and ghost. i think this whole paranormal thing has gone too far. Don't get me wrong, the paranormal thing is what i love ~ obviously with Va~ but in books and movies. I've always had a soft spot for my vampires and angels and beasts and all that magical stuff. But, making VA a movie now would be a huge mistake. It would be constantly compared to twilight and even harry potter. Maybe in a few years when the scene changes and vampires aren't a popular trend anymore, then i can look at the possibility of a movie. But right now- i just think it will be overlooked or overshadowed and attract alot of unreal fans.

Áh, yeah... It's so annoying when all the girls are screaming "Rooooooooob!!!', "Edward!!" and they all have belt about twilight etc. I don't want to see the same happening with VA. The reason I hate twilight is mainly this. I don't wanna hate Vampire Academy... :/

I hate it when things finish as well... But now it's not exactly the end, since I'm waiting for the spin-off series, so it's not that bad... ^^

Yeah you girls are so right! And Christy i too have seen just outrageous things with Twilight things on them, and the cast ...not even that good looking For me, Twilight Saga wasn't an extraodinary book, it was good but it didn't make me feel like a book should and the storyline wasn't really one that got me wild And then the movie just went and ruined whatever hope there was left in it for me
I would also like to see a film out of these books for pure curiosity like you said but then the actors would have to be absolutely phenomenal, they couldnt muck it up one bit or it would be ruined And they couldn't change the storyline - and would have to include every single thing Richelle had written Oh, and they'd have to be a beautiful cast!

Sorry about that little rant
But I do hate it when books come to an end... I cried at the end of Last Sacrifice for the storyline and because it was the end to Rose's narration
