| Now I know there is at least ONE other person on here who has read these books. And since I have just finished Nightfall, the latest book in the series, I was hoping we could get a discussion going on these books. I finished the book today with an "ARRRGH!" Way to leave us hanging, LJ! Thanks bunches - NOT! I was also not thrilled that Stefan was basically gone for the whole book and we still didn't get him back at the end. This has shades of New Moon all over it - only WORSE! Is there really a purpose for taking him away from us? From Elena, I mean. Granted, I didn't like Elena at all at the start. And there are still parts of her that I don't like. But she's definitely better for having died and come back. So let's talk! Favourite characters...favourite scenes...that kind of stuff. I have to admit, I love Stefan. He seems so adorable. In a way, I wish he would fight back more (i.e. stand up to his brother, Damon). And that he wouldn't be so proud all the time as to not accept help (or blood) from Elena. I also like that these stories are a bit more true to traditional vampire legends. They're not totally in line with the traditional lore, but they're fairly close. Does anyone else find the 'blood sharing' thing to be a little on the sexy side? I know I do. In the books, it's described as the closest thing they do to 'doing it'. It's not the first time that I've seen 'blood sharing' to be shown in this way. I'm likely dating myself when I say this, but there was a show many years ago on TV called "Forever Knight"...they depicted blood sharing that way on occasion. I've rambled...sorry. | |

| I really liked Vampire Diaries. I'd have to say Damon is my favorite character. I kind of wished he and Elena would end up together for some reason. (Or at least Bonnie)I don't know. But i was sad when he left in the end But I also liked Bonnie because she's a red head like me. | |

| Hold on...have you read Nightfall? I sure hope I don't spoil, but Damon's not gone. He, Matt and Elena are on a rescue mission/expedition to find Stefan.
Although, yeah, I do think Damon should end up with someone. I like Bonnie for that. But she seems to have a thing with Matt. It may not be official with them but there is something definitely there.
Cool sig, I love Depeche Mode!

| Yet another of a very good set of series. I loved this one cos of the love triangle. Although I know that it started a long time before Elena came about, how Stephen tries to stay away from her (yes shades of twilight), is so very romantic. Like I have done with so many series lately I read these ones way too fast, and will probably have to go back and re read them again , having said that I loved these books. I love the mystery and the suspense. I too was a frustrated at the end of the last book, and with not knowing when the next one will come out, will have to wait to see what happens. A totally recomendation from me for sure | |

| That's the one thing about LJ Smith, we don't know in advance when the next one will be out. At least RM gives us a date or month anyway. I also know there was more than 10 years between the 4th book and this newest one.
I also like this triangle because both of the guys are hot in their own ways.

| I know, and now they are making VD into a TV series..although when I saw the clip I couldnt really see that they had picked the right people for the parts. But then again we are back to everyone thinks different.
Yeah I heard that there was 10 years between them..she best not make us wait that long for the new one..although I heard it is supposed to be out sometime in early 2010..gotta hope so!

| Yeah, you're actually kind when you say they didn't pick the right people for the parts. IMO they totally F'ed it all up!!! Elena MUST be blonde and blue eyed, otherwise the whole first 4 books of the series are for nothing. This girl looks like nothing. She must work cheap, that's probably why she got the part. The two vampire boys were exotic and mysterious Italian boys. In the show they're (no offense) boring Americans. They completely changed the Bonnie character. She's supposed to be a red haired descendent of Druids, and a witch. What did these moron producers do? They changed her into a black girl. I don't have a problem with having a black girl character, but don't make her Bonnie! They should have made her Meredith, and gotten a red head girl to play Bonnie. The moron producers actually ELIMINATED the Meredith character. They also eliminated Elena's little sister and gave her a junkie teenage brother instead. Too many things from the book were changed that now the show IMO doesn't make sense. I have seen the trailers, the show looks like crap. It looks like typical teen-soap crap. And the guys they got to play the vampire brothers aren't even all that attractive, either. The one playing Stefan looks like nothing special. Just a plain boy. And the Damon (if they even kept that name) IMO isn't special. They dyed his hair black (for once something they did right).
I know I won't be watching the show. I can't sit and watch a great series of books being butchered. Screw the CW!!!

| Well I totally agree with you, they screwed up big time with it. I was really excitied about it at first. Then I saw the clips and I thought what the **** did they do? It makes me glad that they haven't made VA into a movie or show yet. Although I am sure eventually they will. If you look at Twilight they did the same. Don't get me wrong I liked the movie and all. But it had wayyyyyyyyyyy to many differences from the book. Yes I know that they can't make it all the same, but come on hardly any of what happened in the book happened the same way in the movie.
Point proven with VD being made into a show..cutting necessary things out, and changing characters is not the way to make it better. For fans of the books they will notice, and I honestly can't see the show going that far. Too many changes, as I am sure some were necessary but characters are important and changing them shouldn't be.

| I enjoyed the books. I thought they were pretty good. The series is YA, so it's kept very clean...some kissing here and there. Like I said they are YA, so you'll hardly see any sex.
If you're going to do anything Vampire Diaries, I recommend the books! The TV show looks awful.

| I've read all except the newest one, and really enjoyed them. I do recommend them, though they might seem a little Twilight-ish to some people.
Anyone else hear they're making a series out of them this fall on the CW?

| I really love Damon's character- is that weird of me? hehe but I do Stephan is a bit of a weak pushover! Can not stand that! I can not stand Elena or Caroline But I do like Bonnie and Meredith, oh and Mrs Flowers!!!
The show and the books are very different. I am looking at them as separates rather than the books that turned into the Tv Series.
Its not really one of my favorites, but it was ok for something to do.

| Oh Caroline's a total beyotch. I don't like her, either. Bonnie, the Druid, is great!
I won't have anything to do with the awful TV series. I had the misfortune of watching one episode and I thoroughly hated it. All I could say was, "That never happened. That's not in the book. Who the f- is that?" The CW and the show are totally cut-off as far as I'm concerned.

| I think the books have progressivly decreased in interestingness... - Spoiler:
I thought it was gay how Stefan yelled Elana's name, lightning flashed and "pop" Elana's human again.

| I don't remember that event you mentioned in your spoiler happening. It's been a while since I read the books. I will have to re-read a bit I think before the next book comes out. However, re-reading will have to wait in line. LOL! I have some other books that I want to read first. The Morganville ones are my current "To Read" list. | |

| Attn: fans of TVD Did you know they fired LJ Smith from writing these books because she didn't want to write them the way the publisher wanted her to? She wanted to write them her way. As an aspiring writer, I stand behind her on that. Check out the petition to try to get them to change their minds. http://twitition.com/hqnr9 | |
